When an amateur plane videographer went to capture a Virgin Atlantic plane taking off from JFK airport in Queens, New York, they only expected to film the aircraft itself as it took off into the clouds.
Instead, they got quite a bit more than they bargained for.
When looking back at the feed, the clip—which lasts just seconds, but has sparked considerable controversy—seems to show something unidentified flying past the plane in the not-so-distant proximity.
The speed at which the mysterious object passes the plane, not to mention the bizarre shape and close location in relation to the aircraft, have led to speculation that it may have been a UFO.
Some viewers believe that the proof is in the pudding; another plane in the distance appearing closer wouldn’t be moving at that speed, and a bird likely wouldn’t be moving that quickly either.
UFO expert Russ Kellett falls on the other side of the argument. He believes that the path of the object suggests it could indeed be a bird, simply appearing that close due to an optical illusion caused by the quality of the film.
Even Kellett, though, hasn’t outright denied that the object could be something extraterrestrial-related, though; he agrees that it certainly is curious enough to be a possibility.
The debate rages on, but see for yourself! It certainly does seem mysterious, indeed.
