A wedding anniversary is cause for celebration. With the first year of marriage replete with adjustments to life together as husband and wife, taking time to remember the joyful day is a special occasion.
Vincent Alexander was thinking ahead when he married his wife, Manda, in March 2017. Wanting to give her a gift that was both thoughtful, and completely unexpected, he made the arrangements on his wedding day.
Vince and Manda Alexander were celebrating their first anniversary, and Vince was going to reveal a secret he’d been keeping from her.
When I said "yes", I thought it was watermelon flavor but it turns out it was cherry….GROSS!
“I originally told her I wanted to have a clown in the wedding to tie balloons and do stuff like that,” Vincent, 39, told PEOPLE.
“My wife is amazing and said, ‘If you absolutely want it, you can.’ But she didn’t really want it and I knew she didn’t want it. So I told her we didn’t have to—and I planned this instead.”
Vince made arrangements with their wedding photographer, wedding planner, and the person running the event. Most importantly, he enlisted his brother Matt’s help.
The ceremony in San Antonio, Texas, went off without a hitch, and as the newly married couple posed for their wedding photos, Vince’s plan was put into action.
Unbeknownst to his Manda, a “killer clown” lurked in the shadows on the day of her nuptials.
The first anniversary is typically the “paper anniversary,” in which the married couple exchange gifts made of paper. Vince thought this would be the perfect gift, and kept the killer clown a secret for a full year.
“I kind of thought that waiting a year for our anniversary was awesome if I could do that,” Vince said. “If I could make it happen, it would be perfect.”
When the moment came for Manda to unwrap the framed wedding photo featuring the groom’s brother clad in clown garb, Vince pulled out his phone to record her reaction.
“How did you do that!” Manda said through an astonished laugh in a video Vince posted on his Facebook page. “Did everybody else know?”
“Most people,” Vince said in reply.
Vince’s plan couldn’t have gone more smoothly, and after a year of keeping it a secret, he’s glad Manda likes the photo.
Manda’s immediate response was to burst out in laughter—Vince couldn’t have asked for anything better.
“She loved it. She was so happy about it,” Vince said.
The couple decided to hang the photo in their home for all of their guests to see. For Vince, it’s the trophy of a plan conceived, brought to fruition, and executed perfectly.
For Manda, it’s an anniversary present she’ll never forget.
“We have it hanging up right now. Vince said. “She thought it was absolutely hilarious!”
