We all have personal heroes we’d like to meet. For some of us, these are athletes. Others look up to actors. And there are people who value writers, creators, and inventors.

Meeting your idol can be a gamble though. You never know how they’re going to react to you in person. They could treat you with grace and dignity, or they could turn out to be total jerks.

12-year-old Victoria Anthony met her hero recently and, when she did, she couldn’t believe her response!

As a huge fan of the singer Pink, Victoria created a social media campaign to meet and sing to her.

Victoria has been a fan of the singer Pink for a long time. In 2018, she sang Pink’s “What About Us?” for her school talent show. When she found out that Pink was coming to her hometown of Vancouver for a concert, she took to Twitter asking the artist to let her sing on stage.

Decked out in a unicorn suit, she told Pink, “I promise I’ll be ready” before knocking it out of the park with an incredible cover.

She wrote, “Your music makes me feel STRONG … like I can BE ANYTHING. Pink, you inspire me.”

Her video, published on May 5, used the hashtag “#VicAndPink,” one that would be circulated over the following weeks. Fellow Canadian musician Sarah McLachlan picked up the hashtag almost immediately, fighting to get Victoria on stage.

The #VicAndPink campaign circulated. Before she knew it, the girl was singing in front of her idol.

A few days later, Victoria’s brothers took part in a #VicAndPink video. They begged Pink to let their sister sing at her show. Once Breakfast Television and other local news sources started covering the story, Pink couldn’t ignore it any longer. She decided to let Victoria perform.

The concert was held on May 12. Pink cleared some time to let the girl sing by herself. Victoria made her way down to the stage.

“Are you who I read about on the news?” Pink asked her. “Do you want to come sing something?”

Then, when Victoria took stage, Pink could hardly believe what she was hearing. Victoria sang her song “Perfect” so beautifully that Pink had her hand over her mouth in shock as she tried to hold back tears.

Once Victoria was done, Pink told the audience, “Wow! Well, I don’t want to sing right now! You’re amazing. Thank you. How old are you?”

When Victoria told her how old she was, Pink was taken aback.

“Oh my god! I sounded like Alvin and The Chipmunks when I was 12! …thank you for that,” Pink said.

Shortly thereafter, Global News asked Victoria about the experience. She said she was still “kind of in shock.”

“What I’m taking away from this, and what everyone should take away, is that when you want something like nothing is impossible,” she said.  “You can always achieve something; [it] is just about the amount of effort you put in.”
