An American archaeologist has discovered two pyramid-shaped features in Egypt using satellite imagery.

The two sites are about 90 miles apart, located near the ruins of Dimai in northern Egypt. One shows a four-sided shape about 140 feet wide alongside three smaller mounds. The other has four mounds and a large triangular plateau.

Satellite archaeologist Angela Micol found the sites and has been documenting them. Pyramid expert Nabil Selim has verified them as undiscovered, and other Egyptologists are now investigating them further.

“It’s very obvious what the sites may contain, but field research is needed to verify they are in fact pyramids, and evidence should be gathered to determine their origins,” Micol said, according to a press release.

“It is my hunch there is much more to these sites and with the use of infrared imagery, we can see the extent of the proposed complexes in greater detail.”

Micol has used Google Earth to identify numerous archaeological sites, such as a potential underwater city off Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula.

These sites will not be disclosed until officials have been properly notified and the areas are protected.

“My dream is to work with archaeologists to release sites that I have identified over the past 10 years of research,” Micol said. “This research is the frontier of discovery and it’s just beginning to advance views of our ancient past.”
