3-Year-Old Cuts All Her Hair Off, When Dad Asks Why the Internet Is in Splits

Kids are invincible, or at least they think they are. We all know that sometimes you have to make a few mistakes before you find out where the boundaries are, and for this adorable little tot, her mistake was one that she had to endure for as long as it took her hair to grow back!

That’s right; 3-year-old Ansleigh, from St. Augustine in Florida, gave herself a haircut.

Ansleigh’s good-natured dad, Chad Clark, caught the aftermath of his little girl’s escapades on camera and posted the adorable video on YouTube. To date, over 4.5 million people agree that Ansleigh’s handiwork is epic. But what’s even more entertaining than the little girl’s shambolic haircut is her adorable explanation!

“I want to know how to do it,” the tiny tot explained, through tears. “I was just practicing today,” she told her dad, having been inspired by a friend of the family who was a trained hairdresser.

Clark then spins the little girl’s head gently to show off the extent of her experimental hairdo. We’ll be frank; it’s a mullet! Ansleigh also succeeded in destroying her neat bangs and adding a couple of artistic bald patches in the process.

“We need more practice, don’t we?” Clark gently berated his little girl. “You didn’t let me practice more!” Ansleigh hit back, incredulous. Laughing, Clark reminded her: “You’re running out of hair to practice on. You cut all your hair off!”

However, optimistic Ansleigh clung on to a ray of hope. Maybe there would be “new hair” for her to cut some time, she mused. Clark gently allowed her to dream: “Your hair will grow again,” he reassured her.

However, there was a deal to be made: “You better not cut it again when you’re little,” Clark informed his little girl. Ansleigh seemed happy with that verdict, assuring her dad that she would work with her “friend Jessica” in the future.

“That’s what I’m gonna do when I get big,” she asserted. “But I don’t know if I’m going to have scissors when I get bigger!” she considered, suddenly. Oh, the perils of toddlerhood!

Clark spoke to Today after the family’s sweet, funny video went viral. As it turns out, Clark’s gentle humor belied a very real fear that he’d get in trouble himself; his wife was away at a conference at the time!

Ansleigh was having “quiet time” in her room with her books and cartoons, and Clark didn’t suspect a thing until it was too late. The little girl left her room, he regaled, found a box in the hallway containing stationery supplies, hijacked a pair of scissors, and snuck them back to her bedroom.

“I heard a quick movement come from her bed,” Clark shared, “the kind of sound you hear when your child is doing something she knows she shouldn’t be doing. I poked my head in,” the amused dad continued, “[and] when I noticed that she had no more bangs, my first thought was, ‘My wife is going to kill me!’”

“My second thought,” Clark added with a laugh, “was, ‘On the bright side, she will never leave me alone for the weekend with the kids again.'”

Little Ansleigh’s epic mullet revival was short lived, after all; Jessica, the little girl’s haircutting inspiration, kindly offered to fix her disastrous home haircut for free. The toddler sported a smart, short ‘do until her hair grew back, instead. Not a bald patch in sight!

And as for Ansleigh’s brief moment of panic, Dad had an answer for that, too. “We’ll get you some scissors when you get bigger,” he told his little girl, before reminding her that he loved her and signing off.

“Thanks, Dad,” she replied with a grin.
