Marrying all the different elements of your life together—work and love, home and travel, friendship and faith—is no mean feat. But throw fame into the mix and the problem becomes that little bit harder.
For New York Mets baseball outfielder Tim Tebow, fame has bred an intense desire for privacy. But his faith in God has always been the most important thing in his life. Finding a partner who shared his faith was a dealbreaker: “They have to really love God,” Tim said, in conversation with People magazine. “My faith is important to me and I need to be with someone who also shares that faith.”
Never underestimate the power of true love to make any man want to shout his good fortune from the rooftops!
Tim met the beautiful Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, South African winner of the 2017 Miss Universe pageant, in an unlikely place.

Tim sponsors a very special annual event named “Night to Shine,” a prom-night experience for young people with special needs. The event is centered around God and the Christian faith, and promotes inclusivity and God’s universal love. Historically, the event has garnered the support of more than 600 churches worldwide.
The event celebrates its fifth anniversary on Feb. 8, 2019.
The synchronicity between Tim and Demi-Leigh’s charitable concerns, and their very first meeting, possibly owes itself to Demi-Leigh’s beloved younger sister, Franje. “She is my dad and stepmom’s daughter,” explained Demi-Leigh. “She was born without a cerebellum and is completely disabled. She is my biggest motivator in life.”
Franje and Demi-Leigh attended “Night to Shine,” where Demi-Leigh met Tim for the first time. Sparks flew, the stars aligned, and most importantly, the pair discovered a very meaningful convergence in their religious beliefs.
Demi-Leigh is not without a sense of humor about the serendipitous nature of meeting her future partner: “God winks,” she posted on Instagram.

The past few years have heralded many changes for the South-African native. In fact, when Demi-Leigh won the Miss Universe pageant in 2017, it was her very first visit to the United States. “When I arrived in New York it felt like the city had been waiting for me,” she posted.
Demi-Leigh embraced her new life in a brand-new country, and she has amassed an impressive list of achievements since her Miss Universe crowning.
Most notably, in the same year as her win, she started an #Unbreakable campaign after a traumatic experience. Demi-Leigh was carjacked and her attackers tried to force her into the car, but she punched them and managed to run away. Demi-Leigh’s campaign aims to empower women around the world with the skills and knowledge they need to keep themselves safe from harm.
Demi-Leigh has always kept God at the forefront of her mind and first in her expressions of gratitude. “All the glory goes to my Heavenly Father and savior, Jesus Christ,” she wrote. “I had a dream of becoming an influential young woman in my country, but His dream for me was so much bigger. I am forever grateful for al the experiences He has blessed me with in my life.”
Demi-Leigh’s faith and outlook won Tim Tebow’s heart, and it wasn’t long before the two became engaged. Tim popped the question at his family’s farm in Florida, stunning his bride-to-be with a beautiful 7.25-carat solitaire ring.
“I am very lucky and blessed,” Tim revealed on social media, breaking his usual rule of keeping his private life very much to himself. “I am usually very private,” he acknowledged, “but I am very thankful.”
We wish all the best to these two, who have found the faith and love they hold so dear in each other. Share this uplifting article with friends and loved ones!
