The Oscar statuette was not the only one glittering in metallic glory at the 85th Academy Awards on Sun., Feb. 24.
It seems the gilt figure served as muse to the gowns donned by several celebrities who gleamed on the red carpet.
One of the first noteworthy gowns to appear on the red carpet was Jessica Chastain’s copper-toned custom mermaid gown by Armani Privé. The strapless gown shimmered with an overlay of white sequins and crystals. With her hair down and softly waved, she completed the look with a statement red lip, Harry Winston diamond earrings, and a 1960s diamond bracelet.
Channeling her inner goddess, Catherine Zeta Jones looked like she stepped off a Grecian urn in an ornate Zuhair Murad gown with gold metallic flourishes and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.
And we must not overlook Renee Zellweger in a form-fitting custom Carolina Herrera gold dress.
But all that glitters is not gold.
Stacy Keibler, George Clooney’s girlfriend, shone in an incredibly flattering silver metallic Naeem Khan gown; and Naomi Watts, Best Actress nominee for “The Impossible,” who wore a daring silver cutout Armani Privé gown.
Oscar would be proud.
