This is a great week to be in NYC!

Happy Chinese New Year: Get ready to welcome the Year of the Horse 4715: Chinese Lunar New Year on Friday, Jan. 31. The colorful parade Sunday, Feb. 2 has been a year in the planning and goes through little Italy and Chinatown.

This is a really big celebration. Wear red, it’s the lunar lucky color!  If you were born in a Year of the Horse, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014, you are clever, kind, animated and energetic, talented and perceptive.  FYI famous Year of the Horse people include Jackie Chan, Oprah Winfrey, Jerry Seinfeld, Paul McCartney, Leonard Bernstein and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, so you are in good—even great company.

Super Bowl XLVIII If you are not fortunate enough to be freezing your backside and watching the Super Bowl at the Meadowlands on Sunday, fear not. Just download the new nfl mobile app and watch everything not only streaming but with social media extras in the comfort of your favorite warm place.

The Times Square Alliance will host the fabulous Super Bowl Boulevard with many Super Bowl activities. [email protected] or NYCGO.com

Happy Birthday to the Apollo Theatre, which officially turns 80 on Jan. 26, but they will be celebrating for weeks. This NYC landmarked theater in Harlem has started a multitude of big careers and hosted celebrities from Count Basie and Ella Fitzgerald to James Brown, Michael Jackson, and President Barack Obama.

The 2014 Amateur Night at the Apollo opens Wednesday, Jan. 29. Info at Apollo.org.

Despite the wonderful week,...

PETE SEEGER died, Jan. 27. Though there will be a myriad of tributes to this legendary man, I cannot let his passing go unnoticed in this column. Pete was a dear and loyal friend and supporter of all causes environmental, but in particular to New York’s own environmental event, ECOFEST where he performed on Aug. 25,2013 at the 25th Anniversary in Times Square.

My sincerest condolences to Pete’s family. I am sure you know how very much loved he was by the entire world.
