Teen Viciously Assaulted Within Road Median in the Bronx
A man is in custody after a group of males was caught on video attacking a teen in the median of the Bronx River Parkway on June 18.
Police said the attackers, who appeared to be mostly teenagers, chased the 14-year-old into the median near the Gun Hill Road exit and severely beat him.
He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in critical condition, police said.
Authorities arrested 21-year-old Ramon Paulino of the Bronx and charged him with attempted murder, gang assault, and assault. Paulino’s case will be handled by federal prosecutors.
The other attackers are still being sought.
Authorities believe the attack was followed by a shooting that was in retaliation for the attack, ABC7 reports. They also believe that the violence is connected to the same gang, the Trinitarios, that killed a 15-year-old boy in the Bronx last week.
Several males were caught on camera dragging the boy out of a Bronx bodega. They stabbed him in the neck before he was able to get away and take himself to the hospital. He later died of his wounds.
His family and police say it was a case of mistaken identity. The brother-in-law of the teen, Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz, was contacted by a member of the Trinitarios who apologized and said they had the wrong person.
