One teen girl battling severe depression felt so down and worthless that she couldn’t even comb her hair. Upon seeing this, one woman, a hairstylist in Waterloo, Iowa, was so heartbroken that she became determined to restore some life into the teen’s tangled locks. After two days of tedious work, the hairstylist had her smiling again!

When hairstylist Kayley Olsson saw this 16-year-old girl from Capri College on Aug. 8, 2017, her hair was a matted and tangled mess. She had made a trip into the school salon because she had pictures coming up for the new school year. She told Olsson to shave off her “worthless” hair, which she thought was beyond salvageable.

Today I had one of the hardest experiences with my client who I am keeping anonymous, I had a 16 year girl come in with…

The girl, who was struggling with severe depression, “felt so down and so worthless she couldn’t even brush her hair, she told me she only got up to use the restroom,” hairstylist  Olsson wrote on a Facebook post, which went viral.

“She said ‘It’s worthless.’ I knew right then and there we had to make sure we kept her hair for her,” Olsson told Inside Edition.

It broke Olsson’s heart when the teen said she felt worthless. So, rather than shaving the girl’s hair off, the kind hairstylist spent several hours repairing the girl’s terribly tangled hair before the final cut.

Olsson said it was “one of the hardest experiences” in her career. “It was a [sic] extremely hard. She cried the entire time we were combing it out.”

“MENTAL HEALTH is a thing, it effects people all around the world and of all ages! PARENTS take it serious don’t just push your kids off and tell them to get over something they legitimately can’t,” Olsson wrote.

“A CHILD should NEVER feel so worthless to not even want to brush their hair.”

After 13 hours of hard work, the teen was smiling again!

“After being here 8 hours yesterday and 5 hours today we finally made this beautiful girl smile and feel like she IS worth something!” she wrote.

“Her last words to me was ‘I will actually smile for my schools pictures today, you made me feel like me again.’”

The incredible transformation made Olsson happy too.

“It really truly warmed my heart that I could do that with something as little as a haircut,” Olsson said.

“You did a very WONDERFUL thing! Thank you for being one of the good ones who just set an amazing example for others and more importantly, saved this girl!” wrote Facebook user Traci Wilkerson Steckel.

Hopefully, this beautiful new look will give this teen the lift she needs to spread her wings and make a fresh start!
