A teen driver is dead after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a protective rail and another car on the Cross Bronx Expressway on Saturday morning, Oct. 22.

Carlos Pereyra-Batista, 18, was driving west on the expressway and was between Third Avenue and the Bronx River Parkway in Tremont when he came across a stopped tractor-trailer, police said, according to the New York Post.

Pereyra-Batista lost control of his 2002 Honda Accord and hit the trailer and a guardrail, then bounced off the guardrail and hit a white Toyota RAV4.

Pereyra-Batista was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 17-year-old passenger was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Neither the man in the RAV4 nor the man in the tractor-trailer was injured, police report.
