These young cancer patients of Curie Institute, in Paris, France, got the surprise of their lives on Dec. 28, 2018. It was kind of a belated Christmas present as there were plenty of starry eyes in the ward that day.
Although Johnny Depp has been officially dropped from the hugely successful Pirates of The Caribbean film series, this didn’t deter the superstar from showing up in his pirate costume to entertain sick kids.

Jack Sparrow, that infamous pirate from the series, showed up resplendent in scraggly long locks and old pirate clothes.
The big-hearted actor delighted young cancer patients, hugging them, sharing jokes, even handing out autographs and posing for happy snaps.

The staff at one of the world’s top research centers for cancer were very grateful to Depp for taking time out from his own Christmas celebrations to think of the sick children.
A tweet from the Institute read: “Surprise visit by Jack Sparrow. The most famous pirate to children & teens of our # pediatrics service! A gift that gave joy to the patients, families, caregivers, doctors, and researchers. Huge thanks to Johnny Depp for his time, his comfort & his energy.”

Depp has been dropped from his role as Captain Jack Sparrow after being a part of the series for 15 years.
Just a few weeks earlier, Disney executive Sean Bailey made the announcement that Depp would be dropped, despite having starred as the pirate in five blockbuster movies, grossing US$4.5 billion.

“We want to bring in a new energy and vitality,” Bailey told The Hollywood Reporter.
In October 2018, scriptwriter Stuart Beattie confirmed Depp’s departure on DailyMail TV.
“I think he’s had a great run. Obviously, he’s made that character his own and it’s become the character he’s most famous for now,” Stuart said.
“And kids all over the world love him as that character so I think it’s been great for him, it’s been great for us, so I’m just very, very happy about it,” he said.
“I think Jack Sparrow will be his legacy. It’s the only character he’s played five times, it’s the character he dresses up in to visit children in hospitals, it’s what he’ll be remembered for,” said Beattie.
He also mentioned, “They were certainly nervously watching the rushes every day but when it all came together, something just clicked and it was magic and connected with audiences. I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Depp will forever be remembered for this kindhearted gesture by the many children who were able to interact with him that day.
He certainly has managed to help them take off their minds from the painful suffering they are enduring.
