A famous Taiwanese aboriginal legend tells a tale of two dragons, mean and fierce, that brought down both the sun and the moon to use as playthings hundreds of years ago.

As the world sat in darkness, a young couple began to search for what had happened and where the sun and moon truly were.

After searching through a deep forest and reaching the top of a mountain, they discovered the two dragons. Using magical golden scissors and a golden axe, the couple killed them both, and brought light and life back to world.

This is the legend of Sun Moon Lake.

Somewhat poetically, in the present day this beautiful locale, where sits the largest Taiwanese body of water, has become a hotspot for newlywed and honeymoon vacations.

Sun Moon Lake sits in the central county of Nantou. The lake surrounds a small oddly shaped island that resembles a round sun and a crescent moon symbolically representing the long-lost legend.

The fresh water’s glass-like surface mirrors the heavens above and the landscape of greenery and mountain ridges for what are the most beautiful vistas only imaginable through the brushstrokes of a well-skilled artist with a range of otherworldly palettes.

Bus or taxi will take you from Taipei to Sun Moon Lake, but no trains go directly to this hideaway. All the more reason to make this your next vacation spot with your loved one when seeking to start or rekindle everlasting love.
