It turns out Sudanese President Omar Bashir is feeling more heat from the international arrest warrant looming over him than he previously admitted.

Sudan’s ambassador to the United Nations suggested on Thursday that charges against al-Bashir should be dropped because he accepted the results on Southern Sudan’s independence vote.

The Sudanese president was indicted last year by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity for his role in the seven-year Darfur conflict. After being charged by the court, Bashir said in a public speech that prosecutors could “eat” his arrest warrant, and then danced for thousands of cheering supporters.

Despite the warrant, Bashir has traveled abroad multiple times. If arrested, Bashir could be extradited to The Hague, Netherlands, home of the ICC, to stand trial.
