Steven Craenmehr Dead: Massive Music Names Craenmehr as One of SXSW Crash Victims

Steven Craenmehr of the Netherlands was named as one of the two people dead after a vehicle plowed through barricades and the crowd at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas early Thursday morning.

Craenmehr, 35, was the creative director for Massive Music, a music agency network with offices in Amsterdam, London, New York City, Los Angeles, and Shanghai.

Craehmehr was based in Amsterdam.

He was riding a bicycle when he was hit by the car around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday.

The driver, identified as Rashad Charjuan Owens, was being chased by police after he tried to avoid a DWI stop.

A woman on a moped, who has not yet been identified, was also killed. Another 23 persons were injured, five critically.

Massive Media said via Facebook that “It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our close friend and colleague Steven Craenmehr, 35, on March 13th, 2014 at SXSW. During the 8 years that Steven worked for MassiveMusic, we got to know him as an unstoppable force, full of life, love and laughter. This is an irreplaceable loss for the MassiveMusic family and we are grateful for the years we spent with him. Our thoughts are with Steven’s family and friends.”

The company also canceled its MassiveTalent Night, an event that was scheduled for Thursday evening.
