Anyavarin Supateeralert of Thailand competes in the women's rhythmic gymnastics on day eight of the 2011 Southeast Asian Games on Nov. 18 in Palembang, Sumatra, Indonesia. Rhythmic gymnasts have strength, power, flexibility, agility, dexterity, and endurance. Participants will master the use of a rope, hoop, clubs, ribbon, or (as shown here) a ball. The ball is thrown and caught, balanced on their hands, or rolled on the floor to program music, displaying both grace and elegance. There are also group performances where teams of five use two apparatus, working together as a unit. The 1984 games in Los Angeles was the first time rhythmic gymnastics was added as a medal sport in the Olympics.(Photo by Matt King/Getty Images)
