New York’s veteran experimentalists feel liberated after their recent signing to indie label Matador.

Composed and recorded in a month, The Eternal contains all the essential SY elements - from the punk opener, to grunge-laden walls of guitar noise to the more focused and melodic.

There’s an ominous growl to the thrilling primal guitar work throughout these tracks, many of which are inspired by a bunch of off-beat artists.

Sonic Youth are at their best when light penetrates such as on the out-of-step classic ‘Malibu Gas Station’ and the extended, hypnotic semi-acoustic rumination that closes the album.
