DALLAS—Shen Yun Performing Arts was an eye-opener for the Dallas Winspear Opera House audience Friday night, Dec. 16, as the colorful performance revealed 5,000 years of Chinese civilization through music, song, and dance.

Mr. Richard Buchura, a small business owner, came to see the performance with Ms. Blanca Davis and the two said they had never seen anything like it.

“We were so impressed with so many of the unique aspects of the show. Especially the screen with the way that the characters coming out of the screen and going back in the screen. It was just beautiful,” Mr. Buchura said.

Shen Yun’s backgrounds are unique in that it uses an animated, digital backdrop that ties into the dances and dancers’ performances seamlessly.

“This is the first time that we have had this exposure. We wish that we could better understand more of the background of the dance and where it comes from and how the stories evolve, but we love what we have seen—the costumes, the color,” Mr. Buchura said.

Classical Chinese dance was built on profound, traditional aesthetics that have been passed down for thousands of years. The rich, cultural traditions allow the dance movements to be deeply expressive, capturing the feelings and personalities of characters with unparalleled clarity, according to the program.

“It’s magnificent. The dancers are fantastic. The music, the colors, I just don’t have enough words to describe how fantastic it is,” Ms. Davis said. “It’s also very educational for those of us that have never had exposure in traditional classical Chinese dance, and music, and the culture. It’s just a great revelation; I’m going to tell all of my friends about it.”

Ms. Davis felt the message of the show was deeply spiritual, and was moved by the vocalists’ lyrics.
