LODZ, Poland—Ms. Kwasniak worked to prepare for the arrival of Shen Yun Performing Arts in Lodz. She said she personally handled many of the formalities of her television station sponsoring the performances. During the process she became very interested in the show. She said, “For me it would be unimaginable to miss such an event.”
“I’ve never personally had much contact with Chinese culture, and it’s quite unknown to me. But this performance here was a definite success in that it has really made Chinese culture more accessible to us. I of course read about China, but I’ve never been there, and before today I never really realized that their cultural basis is connected with the divine, and that was obvious in this show. The performance was beautiful and technically excellent, the choreography outstanding, the performances flawless, the skill of the artists was top rate.”
The artists in the company are highly accomplished musicians, dancers, and singers from around the world. The choreographers and composers have extensive backgrounds in classical Chinese dance and in Western and Chinese classical music.
An unusual feature of the show is the projected backgrounds, which sometimes appear to be natural landscapes and sometimes appear to be scenes from the heavens, or from miniature, glittering worlds. Ms. Kwasniak noticed the innovation. She said, “What I also found really appealing was the combination of classical dance forms with the technical innovations, that is the projection on the backdrop. That really helped to illustrate the spiritual dimension, and that’s a big plus for the company. It was hard to imagine what was going to be shown, and what has been shown was absolutely spellbinding.”
She felt empathy for the people of China when she considered that the beautiful show is not allowed to visit China. “We Poles were once in a similar situation, and I really sympathize with the Chinese and believe that they will be successful in liberating themselves from the regime there, because the world has moved forward. ... The current situation simply cannot continue indefinitely. I’m convinced that it will happen. It’s just a matter of the right timing and the right leadership to change this.”
