CHEONGJU, South Korea—Shen Yun Performing Arts World Company presented its second full house performance at Cheongju Art Center on March 30, 2019. Among the audience members who were truly touched by the magnificent performance displaying the essence of the 5,000 years of the divinely inspired Chinese culture was Myeong Hee Kim, founder & CEO of Bioneer Inc. (AceBiome).
“Very impressive and awesome. It is rich in connotations of Chinese culture,” said Myeong Hee. “Shen Yun makes people around the world feel peaceful. This is a truly spectacular performance.”
“I was truly touched. [Shen Yun] is very unique. This is a very special and wonderful performance. I thank it [Shen Yun] very much.”
Having heard of Shen Yun and missed out the opportunities of seeing Shen Yun during her stay in San Francisco, Myeong Hee was very happy to learn that Shen Yun was going to perform in Cheongju.
“Without second thought, [I] decided not to miss out this opportunity,” she said.
Established in 2006, New-York based Shen Yun Performing Arts presents works of classical Chinese dance, ethnic and folk dance, solo musical performance, and original Chinese songs in the traditional bel canto style.
“The dance is so special. It’s beyond words. The overall performance is very magnificent and outstanding, and is full of vitality,” she said.
Amazed by performers’ exquisiteness of the bearing and form, she said, “The highly difficult movements are amazing. They are perfect,” she marveled.
As an entrepreneur who has a liking for music, Myeong Hee was especially impressed with the Shen Yun music, that the exquisite beauty of Chinese melodies and the grandeur of a Western symphony was seamlessly combined.
“The synchronization of East and West musical instruments is very natural and harmonious,” she said.
Referring to a modern-day piece based on real-life human right abuses in China, “Goodness in the Face of Evil,” she said, “among others, the part that deeply impressed me is the [story] about the Chinese Communist regime’s suppression of beliefs. It makes me feel very sad.”
The piece is a dance drama depicting the story about Falun Dafa, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted in China under the communist regime since 1999,
As to the principle of upholding virtue and condemning evil implied in that piece, she said “as a Korean, I think this is principally similar to Korean culture and tradition.”
“The Communism should be denounced as soon as possible, so that all mankind can live a peaceful life,” she added. “I hope that the leaders of the Chinese government should open their hearts to tolerate arts, religions, and beliefs.”
“I do think it would be great if China could transform into that kind of society as soon as possible,” she said.
Moreover, Myeong Hee expressed that she was touched by the message of brightness and hope implied in the program.
“The Creator is always with us when we are suffering. He has been with us to protect us,” she said.
“If we adhere to goodness, heaven will guide us to get everything done smoothly,” she further said. “At any time, if we have goodness in mind in our daily life, we can eventually return to the magnificent [celestial] world.”
