COSTA MESA, Calif.—Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company brought joy to an enthusiastic audience at a sold out performance, at Segerstrom Center for the Arts, on March 13.

Among the cheering audience, seated in the second row of the orchestra section was Elizabeth Alex, president and owner of Monarch Mobile Home Sales.

Ms. Alex, a board member of the Huntington Beach Mobile Home Advisory Board, was recognized by the National Association of Professional Women as a “Woman of the Year” in 2012/2013.

She was delighted by the performance.

“I thought it was glamorous, wonderful—feats of grandeur and dance,” Ms. Alex said. “I loved the story lines.”

“It was captivating the whole time,” she said.

Shen Yun is a New York-based, non-profit, classical Chinese dance and music company that tours to over 100 cities in some 20 countries for six months of the year on its mission to revive traditional Chinese culture.

Shen Yun’s website explains, “Through the universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales, taking you on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture.”

“It was an astounding performance,” Ms. Alex said. “I thought they [the dancers] were quite sensational. They didn’t miss a beat; they were always in sync.”

“You don’t see that. I haven’t seen something like that here at the center; it was quite refreshing,” she added.

According to the company website, “A Shen Yun performance features the world’s foremost classically trained dancers, a unique orchestra blending East and West, and dazzling animated backdrops—together creating one spectacular performance.”

Ms. Alex was particularly impressed with the athletic prowess of the dancers.

“I was very surprised at how high everyone could jump, and also that they moved so daintily across the stage with no noise,” she said.

“It just captivated you the whole time,” she said again.

When she has the chance to speak with friends about Shen Yun, Ms. Alex plans on telling them, “Watch it. It’s fantastic.”

“[I’m] glad I was here.”
