AUCKLAND, New Zealand—Shen Yun Performing Arts 2009 World Tour made its Auckland debut performance at the ASB Theatre on Wednesday, April 15 before an audience that was thrilled by the  beauty and artistic perfection of the performances.

Auckland is regarded as the gateway to the rest of New Zealand, and is the country's centre for commercial and financial activities.

It is fondly called the “City of Sails” and holds the distinction of hosting the start of the America's Cup in 2002.

Among the audience members was musician Ms Nodes, who has taught singing for twenty years.

The athletic prowess of the performers impressed her. Ms Nodes said that she knew very little about Chinese culture.  She understood that it was particularly diverse and that Shen Yun depicted that diversity.

“They have done a wonderful job with the costuming and very beautiful grouping on stage. I have enjoyed the way they have done the backdrops. They haven't changed the scenery as such, but in other ways they have changed it dramatically each time.“

As a player of both the piano and violin, she found the music very pleasing.  She appreciated the variety of instruments, including the flute section.  She noted that there were instruments in the orchestra that she had never heard before.

Ms Nodes said that the singing had been influenced by European music. The vocal soloists have opera training.

Members of Parliament Turiana Turia MP, Keith Locke MP, and Rodney Hide MP were among the dignitaries from around the country who sent  greetings to Shen Yun.
