AUCKLAND, New Zealand—Clayton McKenzie appreciated the high standard of the performance when he attended Shen Yun, on April 12, at Auckland in the Aotea Centre’s ASB Theatre.

“Dazzling, spectacular all those things, brilliant amazing” this was Mr. Claytons impression of the entire performance.

Mr. Clayton was taken with the delicate and light movements of the dancers. “You hear nothing, so they are absolutely superb, the techniques and that’s amazing,” he said.

“Formations good, technique good, athleticism.”

According to Shen Yun’s website, Shen Yun mainly stages classical Chinese dance built on traditional aesthetics. “It was once passed down among the people, in imperial courts, and through ancient plays. It has its own set of training methods, skills, specific postures, making it a vast and independent system of dance.”

Mr. Clayton’s knowledge of Chinese history helped him to understand the stories portrayed on stage. This included the scenes about the current day persecution.

“I’ve read books through the Mao era, and so that’s no surprise to me at all.”

Shen Yun’s website states, “In 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) initiated a persecution campaign against Falun Dafa, a meditation discipline based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance.”

Mr. Clayton said he would tell his friends about the performance.

“I would say come and get a real treat. It’s just pretty amazing entertainment. It’s great to watch.”
