The San Marcos River overflowed on Thursday, flooding the Texas city--and nearby Martindale was hit by floods as well.

About 100 people took shelter in the San Marcos Activity Center after evacuations following heavy rain overnight.

Residents were evacuated from multiple areas, including on Riviera Street on the San Marcos River, on River Road between the railroad trestle and Aquarena Springs, Blanco River Lodge, and Blanco Star Mobile Home Park, reported the San Marcos Mercury

Floodwaters began receding in the city around noon and many roads that were closed have now re-opened.

Rescue workers worked on reaching stranded people in Martindale, where the river completely flooded out of its bank, reported YNN. FM 1979 was flooded near Main Street.

Floodwaters spilled into numerous homes.

A flood warning for the river is still in effect until Saturday afternoon.

The forecast is: “The river will rise above flood stage by this evening and continue to rise to near 30.6 feet by early Friday morning. The river will then fall below the flood stage by late Friday evening.”

The projected impact is: “At 30.0 feet, major flooding reaches nearly all of Palmetto State Park with extensive damage to park facilities, signs, fences and roads. Flow is to the slab of the large Pavillion building. Livestock in the flood plain below San Marcos to Gonzales are cut off. Lowest sections of the golf course in Luling flood.”
