[xtypo_dropcap]T[/xtypo_dropcap]oronto Mayor Rob Ford wants to go underground with the transit system by extending the Sheppard Line in the near future, and suspending the light-rail train system.
The Transit City Plan developed in 2007, which was to provide Toronto with fast, reliable transit lines with priority on the Eglinton, Finch West, and Scarborough Rapid Transit lines, are now being reconsidered. Ford, along with the executives, also want to get rid of the vehicle registration tax, which will cost $48 million in lost revenue and $16 million loss in refunds to those who paid in advance.
If the city council votes in favour of the cancellation on Dec.16, the vehicle registration tax will be no more, starting Jan. 1, 2011.
