NEW YORK—If you are wondering what to do with your Christmas tree after the holiday season, the MulchFest may be your solution.

New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, the New York City Department of Sanitation, and GreeNYC will host the annual MulchFest on Jan. 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help New Yorkers recycle their used trees into mulch that will help nourish plants and trees around the city.

Participants can chip in by dropping off a tree at any designated drop off spot between Jan. 2 and 8. There will be over 35 drop off locations and parks will host over 35 chipping sites as well.

All ornaments and lights must be removed before trees are dropped off. Last year, over 17,000 trees were recycled. Specific locations of the sites can be found on the NYC Parks website.
