HONG KONG—Heavy rain interrupted around half of the Premier League games on the first day of the second half of the season last weekend, September 1.
After a two-month break and when all teams are hunger for games, only 37 of the 73 scheduled matches on the 10th week took place over the weekend. The only game played in the men’s division one was at the indoor greens of Hong Kong Football Club when the leader HKFC-A played their clubmates in HKFC-B.
The HKFC-A team was skipped by Hong Kong international Tony Cheung, ex-HK international CT Wong and Anthony Yip. Cheung needed to come from behind to beat Singapore international Terence Lee 12:15. However, Wong did not enjoy the same fortune as he scrambled to a defeat of 19:10 at the hand of Wagner Chan, despite at one stage closing the gap to just one point on the 14th end.
Yip was anticipating an easy win after taking six shots on the second end against Johnny Tsang but fell behind after conceding a six on the twelfth end. The team re-focused and took 17 shots in the remaining ends while having the luxury to lose five on the sixteenth end. The roller-coaster games finished 19:30.
After the game the lead of HKFC-A was extended to 10 points. All other teams have their game in hand.
For the women, the only division one game conducted was between Shatin Sport Association and Seabird Sport Club. STSA just registered one win from the rink skipped by Esther Yu but the big score of 27:4 was enough to keep the home side unbeaten.
As the game finished 4-4, STSA still trail the leader and defending champions Island Lawn Bowls Club by six points, despite moving into second place.
