NEW YORK—So much of the joy of the holiday season comes from the traditions we honor. From the best turkey and stuffing at Thanksgiving to the songs, holiday-themed performances, and get-togethers with family and friends we may not see throughout the year. We asked a few New Yorkers what their favorite holiday traditions are.

A favorite ritual with the kids was to go to New York Public Library. They have an open house every year. If you are a member you get to go to this wonderful party, it’s the best party in New York. They have stilt walkers, magicians, and Scrooge is there. It’s just a joyous time.

Something I like to do with my family every year is watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” with my wife and kids. My wife makes hot chocolate and cookies.

Ever since my first Christmas my family goes to take photos with the Macy’s Santa, every year from 1 to 21 we have a photo with Santa. It’s been a few years since we have done it, but we would do that and look at the windows at Macy’s and at Lord & Taylor.

I want to take my daughter to see the Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall. Maybe it will be a new tradition.

We come from California to visit our daughters. We’ve been to the Macy’s parade with our kids; we also go to Rockefeller Center at Christmas.
