Former Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee (1-5) picked up his first win of the season Wednesday, a 9–2 victory over the Mets, three months and 14 starts into the season.

“I think you guys made a bigger deal about it than I did,” Lee said, according to the Phillies website. “I keep things simple. I try to give the team a chance to win every time. I would have loved to have had a win a long time ago, but to me it wasn’t as big a deal as you guys wanted it to be for me.”

Lee, who was 17-8 last season and sports a very-respectable 3.98 ERA on the season, has been the recipient of some bad luck this season as the struggling Phillies offense has squandered some good starts. Even Wednesday’s game was in doubt until Lee’s teammates scored nine runs in the last three innings for the win.
