An earthquake in Rio Grande, Peru registered 4.9 on the Richter scale, hitting near the central coast.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the quake hit 12 miles from Rio Grande, 31 miles from Nazca, and 209 miles southeast of Lima, the capital.
The earthquake had a depth of around 30.9 miles.
Peru is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, which stretches around the Pacific Ocean and is said to be the most seismically active region in the world.
