An article saying that the Pentagon is looking to ban the CrossFit exercise regimen from the military is satire.

The article was published on The Duffel Blog, which doesn’t post real news stories.

“ The Defense Department is considering a proposal to ban the controversial CrossFit workout program for all military members, citing the lack of a full evaluation of the exercise plan and an approved program doctrine, Duffel Blog has learned,” the article says. “The exercise program — a mixture of resistance, calisthenics and aerobic exercises which stresses variation and repetition — has become wildly popular over the last decade, as many troops have become vigorous practitioners of the CrossFit lifestyle and military units have even adopted CrossFit as their official physical training plan.” It then quotes a Pentagon “internal memo.”

However, it’s just satire and there’s no truth to it.

It has a disclaimer that reads: “Duffel Blog is sometimes referred to as ‘the military version of The Onion,’ but this is a popular misconception. The misnomer was cleared up in May 2012 when DB staff successfully conducted an airborne assault on the offices of The Onion News Network so that others would know ‘The Onion was actually the civilian version of Duffel Blog.’”

The disclaimer is referring to The Onion, a prominent satire news website.
