Months after disastrous floods struck Pakistan, much remains to be done.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) announced on Wednesday it has built new houses for 50 families in Pakistan’s Northern Gilgit-Baltistan Province. But many more remain homeless.
In just the Gilgit-Baltistan Province alone, 87,000 people were displaced by the floods in July, according to UNDP numbers. Shelter has become increasingly urgent for many Pakistanis with the onset of winter.
An estimated 20 million people in Pakistan have been affected by the floods, making it the worst disaster in the country’s history. The international community has been largely criticized for not reacting quickly or forcefully enough to the disaster.
