Ottawa Considering ‘All Options’ to Save Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion
Kinder Morgan is suspending all non-essential activities and related spending on the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project.
The company says its decision is based on the British Columbia government’s opposition to the project, which has been the focus of sustained protests.
Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr calls the expansion “crucial” to Canada’s export markets.
“I want to say the government Canada…is determined to see this pipeline built,” Carr said.
“There is not a jurisdictional question here, that’s clear enough. Courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada, have said that it is a federal jurisdiction when the subject is a major energy project that moves resources from one part of the country to another.”
