They’re the celebrity couple that diehard romantics look to for inspiration. It’s a classic love story, and we can’t get enough of it.

Hollywood duo Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have been happily together since 2005, but just this week, Nicole opened up to People magazine about long-term love, Keith, and the moment she knew she had fallen head over heels.

It comes as no surprise that Nicole and Keith claim blissful happiness throughout more than a decade of marriage, two beautiful daughters, and two outstanding showbiz careers. Nicole, 51, is a Hollywood actress who achieved worldwide recognition in 1995 as “Dr Chase Meridian” in superhero movie Batman Forever, and has had an extraordinary career ever since. Keith, also 51, is a Kiwi singer-songwriter and record producer. He topped the Australian charts before relocating to the United States.

My love and I at the #MetGala a few years ago. Looking forward to seeing all of the beautiful fashions tonight.

The Antipodean natives met for the first time in Los Angeles in 2005, at the G’Day USA gala in LA, honoring Australians in LA.

Rumor has it that Keith couldn’t keep his eyes off of the Australian beauty, and wanted desperately to talk to her. He claims he wanted to compare their experiences as Aussies in Hollywood. Well, it’s as good a conversation starter as any!

An infatuated Keith, subdued by nerves, fumbled through a messy attempt to talk to Nicole before sidling off to compose himself. His second attempt, thankfully, was much more successful. It didn’t take long for the sparks to fly.

Nicole, speaking to People magazine, opened up about her experience of meeting the love of her life, and how she knew, very early on, that she wanted to marry him.

Keith had set his sights on the woman he wanted, and made a bold statement on Nicole’s 38th birthday to make sure she knew how deeply he felt. At this stage, their growing love remained something of a mystery to each other, but Keith’s gesture was destined to reveal their true feelings.

Keith’s approach to romance was old-school. And it was perfect; Nicole was bowled over. “He stood outside with gardenias at 5 a.m. on my stoop in New York,” Nicole recalls. “That is when I went, ‘This is the man I hope I get to marry.’”

Her feelings only intensified as Keith surprised her with a trip out of the city, to Woodstock, on his motorbike. “I believed by that point he was the love of my life,” Nicole remembers, with deep affection.

Flowers, an impromptu trip, and a man on a motorbike; that’s the recipe for an epic love story if ever we heard one!

Nicole and Keith tied the knot in Sydney in the summer of 2006.

11 years of love that I thank God for every day. I love you Keith Lionel more and more. Happy anniversary. ❤

In conversation with Vogue, over three years ago, Nicole divulged that she wished she had met Keith earlier: “I wish I could have met him much earlier and had way more children with him, but I didn’t.”

Her sensible husband, on the other hand, believes that everything happened as it should have. With regards to Nicole’s regret at not having more children, Keith has sage advice for his wistful wife: “The wanting mind, Nicole. Shut it down!”

Did Nicole ever share Keith’s nerves in the early days of their relationship? Apparently not. “I am deeply romantic … I just believed, ‘Oh, okay, here he is,’” she reveals. Here’s to Nicole’s conviction. If the infatuated pair had both stumbled over their words in the early days, their love story may have looked entirely different!

We suspect that Keith is right: everything happened as it should have. And it’s not over yet. The couple live in Nashville with their family, and enjoy their own version of quiet, domestic bliss. “Just love,” Nicole advises. “Just love each other, lavish each other with love.”
