A man who fell off a cliff while mowing in his backyard was rescued on June 30 in Vermilion, Ohio.

Dave Watkins, who fell more than 30 feet, suffered several bone fractures and was later sent to a local hospital.

In an interview, he said he was mowing the lawn close to the edge. But when he tried to turn around, “something funny happened,” according to Fox 8. The next thing he remembered was rolling down the hill.

A neighbor heard Watkins yelling help and called 9-1-1. But the rescue was not that simple.

The edge of the cliff had a lot of broken brick and rebar, among other debris, according to the fire department, so they decided to immobilize the victim in a basket and use ropes to pull him back to the top of the cliff. It took more than 20 firefighters to get Watkins to safety.

“Those guys are amazing, absolutely amazing. They had no problems, there was no hang-ups, they knew what the hell they were doing. And I don’t know how long it took, but it didn’t seem like it took that long for them to get me out of there,” Watkins said.
