NYC: Mathieu Eugene Wins Re-election in Brooklyn’s Council District 40

NEW YORK--Mathieu Eugene won a close race for City Council district 40, besting three challengers.

Eugene, who is the first Haitian-born official elected to the council, was first elected in 2007.

He got 48.09 percent of the votes.

Saundra Thomas, a former vice president of community affairs with WABC, got 37.52 percent ; Sylvia Kinard, an attorney, got 10.50 percent; and John Grant got 3.89 percent.

District 40 includes Ditmas Park and Kensington and parts of Crown Heights and Flatbush.
