One Dead in Nigerian Church Bombing Retaliation Violence

Retaliation clashes between Muslims and Christians killed at least one person Sunday and left several homes burnt in the Nigerian city of Jos, according to AFP. The violence occurred in the same area where 32 people were killed in bomb attacks Friday.

Six people also died in attacks on two churches in the more northern city of Maiduguri.

In Jos Sunday, least two houses were burnt and smoke was reported in another part of the city, according to the report ,and the army and police were called to intervene. Jos is located between the predominantly Christian south and Islamic north of the country, AFP reported.

On Christmas Eve four almost simultaneous explosions happened around 7:35 p.m. local time killing 32 people in the city and injuring dozens of others.

Most of the victims were Christians in the midst of Christmas shopping, Nigerian newspaper THISDAY reported.

In January, riots in the region between Christians and Muslims killed over 300.
