[xtypo_dropcap]N[/xtypo_dropcap]ewfoundland Labrador Premier Danny Williams tendered his resignation Thursday in an emotional farewell before the media and many of his supporters.

Williams leaves the helm after guiding the province to its turn as a “have” province in 2008, benefitting from the wealth of oil revenues from offshore drilling.

He said he would return to work in business but did not elaborate. He had previously earned the nickname “Danny Millions” after selling Cable Atlantic for $232 million in 2000.

Williams came to power in 2003 and earned a tough guy reputation during conflicts with the federal government over oil revenues.
