UPDATE as of 4:32 p.m: The National Weather Service lifted the tornado warning in Massachusetts, and issued a flash flood warning for central and northern Essex County.
Amid unconfirmed reports that a tornado struck down in Danvers, Massachusetts, the National Weather Service said that a tornado warning was in effect in Essex, Suffolk, and Middlesex counties.
The tornado warning was in effect until 4:30 p.m. for the “extreme eastern” part of Middlesex, the extreme northern part of Suffolk, and southern Essex counties, the service said on its website.
It said that motorists in the area should not take shelter under highway overpasses.
Residents should also take shelter in a basement or another sturdy room in the home, and people should not wait until they see the tornado.
Earlier on Monday, it was reported that a tornado touched down in Danvers, causing an accident. There were also videos posted on YouTube of a funnel cloud.
In Connecticut, there were also unconfirmed reports that a tornado flipped over a truck in East Windsor near the Wal-Mart.
Reports in New Jersey also said that a tornado hit near Berkeley Heights.
