New Contenders Emerge as Discards Kick In

HONG KONG—Day 4 of the Hebe Haven Typhoon Series 2016 took place on Sunday July 17. A fleet of 53 boats sailed in a consistent10 knot southerly wind, with 2 geometric races set outside Port Shelter by Race Officer Inge Stompf-Jepsen.

“Straight Up” and “FreeFire” move into 2nd and 3rd places respectively in the IRC-A Division (both on 16 points after good performances in Races 5 and 6, and being able to discount 1 race result after the completion of 6 races. “Straight Up” took 2nd and 4th places while “FreeFire” finished 5th and 1st. “Zannekin” retains the top position with 13 points after 2nd and 3rd place finishes on the day.

In IRC-B Division, “Sell Side Dream”, “Blue Bunny” and “Lighthorse” all made up ground on “Seawolf” by finishing in high positions in Races 5 and 6. “Seawolf” on 7 points (after discard) is just 3 points clear of “Sell Side Dream” while “Blue Bunny” and “Lighthorse” are on 13 and 15 points respectively.

In IRC-C Division, “Red Kite 2” with 2 more wins in Races 5 and 6, has now taken the lead after discarding the points received by missing Race 1. “Red Kite 2” is now 2 points ahead of “Dexter II” on 8 points. “Whiskey Jack” is lying 3rd on 17 points.

“Merlin” continues to dominate the Sportsboat Division with 5 points net after discarding its solitary 2nd place in Race 3. “Ricochet” is lying 2nd on 12 points and “Catch 22” is next on 19 points.

“Jive” and “Jazz” lost out to “Jelik 6” and “Bumphead” in these two races. “Jive” still retain 1st place but “Bumphead” (13 points) has pushed “Jazz” (14) into 3rd place in the standings.

In HKPN-A, leader “Bits & Pieces” although taking double line honours in Races 5 and 6, was pushed into 6th and 8th places respectively on corrected time. New boat to the series “Generations” won Race 5 ahead of “Tornado” and “Scintilla”, and in Race 6, “No One Else”, “Pepper & Salt” and “Tornado” were the top 3. “Bits” is still in 1st place overall with 12 points net, but “Temujin” and “No One Else” have moved into 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

In HKPN-B, “GA” has taken the lead position with 10 points net, “Gecko” is lying 2nd on 12 points and “Lazy Piggy” is 3rd with 13 points. “Scrumpy” is a further 2 points back.

This Saturday July 23, two geometric races will be held inside Port Shelter for Day 4 of the Summer Saturday Series.
