NASA Wants to Explore Mars Using Swarm of Robotic Bees
NASA has advanced a proposal to send a swarm of robotic bees to Mars. The tiny drones would be as small as a bumblebee with cicada-like wings.
“The swarm of Marsbee can significantly enhance the Mars exploration mission,” NASA states on its website.
The Marsbees would have their own sensors and wireless communication. They’d use a Mars rover as their base.
The University of Alabama in Huntsville team will develop a numeric model for the drones to fly in the Mars atmosphere. A Japanese team “will develop and test a micro flapping robot, uniquely designed and constructed for the low-density atmosphere on Mars,” the NASA website states.
