A mother and her 29-day-old child died in a car accident in Coal Township, Pennsylvania, along Route 54.

The two-vehicle crash involved a tractor-trailer, according to the Sunbury Daily Item.

Northumberland County Coroner James F. Kelley said Thursday, Jan. 18, that Keyla M. De Los Santos, 27, and her son, Jonathan Anthony, died in the accident.

They were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at 6:50 p.m. local time, the News Item reported.

De Los Santos and Anthony were identified Wednesday night at the Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital by family members who are from New York City’s Bronx borough, Kelley said.

A 2004 Toyota van was going east on Route 54 when it began to slide on the snow-covered roadway before hitting a tractor-trailer, police said.

Two other people inside the Toyota van were sent to Geisinger Medical Center. One is in critical condition and the other is stable.

Santos and her son were passengers inside the van, the News Item reported.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, which was hauling 11,000 pounds of Wegmans products, wasn’t hurt.

All four people inside the van had to be cut out of the vehicle.

Investigators think that bad weather played a role in the wreck, WNEP reported.
