NEW YORK—Financial services firm Morgan Stanley filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification on Tuesday with the U.S. Department of Labor to layoff workers for economic reasons.

The rolling layoffs began on Dec. 15 with no specified end date. A total of 580 workers will be let go in the process. The layoffs will impact various Morgan Stanley divisions around New York, including the offices at 1221 Avenue of Americas, 1 New York Plaza, 1585 Broadway, and 750 Seventh Ave.

The job cuts are part of a larger layoff process, which will cut a total of 1,600 jobs throughout the first quarter of 2012, according to a statement issued by Morgan Stanley. The layoffs will impact all job levels.
