10-15% of women experience mood disorders during and after pregnancy and 1 in 4 women will begin pregnancy on psychiatric medications. Despite accumulating data around antidepressant treatment during this time, many women express preferences for alternative treatment but are limited by a “meds vs no meds” binary model of care. When depression is viewed as an endpoint of multiple different modifiable lifestyle contributors, changes in environment, stress management, diet, and behavior can result in alleviation of symptoms and more optimal health for mother and baby. Inflammatory models of depression and postpartum depression and anxiety will be explored. Visit Dr. Kelly Brogan’s Amazing website: kellybroganmd.com
