A southern Indiana man was found dead in a wooded area near his home on June 16, two days after he was reported missing, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Evan Hollkamp’s body was found in Borden, Indiana, in “a densely wooded area in close proximity to his residence,” said Clark County Colonel Scott Maples, reported WDRB.

The 23-year-old was last seen at around 2 p.m. on June 14 officials said, when family members said he went hiking with his dog, and failed to return home.

According to the filed missing person report, Hollkamp was last seen wearing blue gym pants, a light blue or gray T-shirt, red socks, and purple and black shoes, reported WLKY.

Hollkamp’s mother, Carrie Hollkamp, wrote a post on Facebook the day after he went missing urging the public to get in touch if they had any information about her son, adding that search parties had been trying to locate him.

“PLEASE help me find my boy. Evan Hollkamp went hiking with his dog yesterday (June 14) behind our home in Borden, IN, just off HWY 60. He has been missing since 2 P.M. We’ve had search parties looking for him and his dog,” she wrote.

“If you have seen them or our have any information, please, please contact us. You can call 812-246-6996 if you have information. And please help spread the word-- share this post like crazy.”

Later the same day, she described how her son had gone missing after going for a hike with their dog, and appealed for help with the search.

“If you are not yet aware- my boy Evan is missing in the woods behind our home. He is 23 and went hiking with his dog. They have been missing since yesterday afternoon. The area of forest behind our house is so dense that the search is very hard. 6 search dogs, rotating; 3 horses; lots of people,” she explained.

“For tomorrow, we could use more help. We’re getting a search team together tomorrow, June 16 at 8am. If you can help us search, please come to our house. It’s very difficult to organize something like this. So please be patient with me. We’re located just of HWY 60, very near the dump. A map is below. For your GPS, put in Oak Hill Road, Borden IN.”

An investigation is currently underway into the cause of Hollkamp’s death, but no foul play is suspected at this time, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
