A story saying that 16-year-old “Miranda Fugate Lockwood,” 16, was killed after she got hit in the head by “Emily Powers” is a hoax. A fake news website took a viral Vine video and made up a story about it. The girl’s real name is apparently Miranda Lynn Fugate.

The fake article was published to Huzlers.com, which is a self-described “satire” website. The person who posted the original Vine video of Miranda getting hit in the head later posted another video and said she’s fine after the death hoax went viral.

“Miranda is not dead! me and her just got off the phone follow us on twitter,” the poster of the video, “Josh Officer,” wrote.

The fake Huzlers article reads, “Miranda Fugate Lockwood died of serious head injuries after being hit with a shovel in the head by an old friend of hers named Emily Powers. The whole thing was caught on video and posted all over the internet and generated around 500,000 video views in just 2 days ... In the video, the two girls begin fist fighting outside Emily’s house for a few seconds before Emily threatened to go inside her house and bring out an air soft gun which shoots plastic BB’s, when Miranda suddenly charged at Emily, Emily grabbed a nearby shovel and “cracked” Miranda in the dome.”

At the bottom of each page, Huzlers has a disclaimer saying it does not post real news.

“Huzlers.com is a combination of real shocking news and satire news to keep its visitors in a state of disbelief,” it reads.

There’s been no mainstream media coverage about a girl named Miranda Lockwood being killed.

The Huzlers story had thousands of shares and “likes” on Facebook, with many people apparently believing it.

On Twitter, the “RIPMiranda” hashtag was trending.

“It’s sad that a young girl died from a fight #RIPMiranda,” one person tweeted.

Added another, “I can’t believe people are laughing at a video of murder, that girl died of head trauma from getting hit with the shovel #RIPMiranda.”

“Damn the girl that got hit with the shovel died .. #RIPMiranda,” said another.
