It is costing Michael Schumacher’s family about $162,000 per week to keep the ex-F1 champion at his home in Switzerland, according to reports.

EuroSport reported that after he was taken home from a rehab clinic following his catastrophic accident while skiing in the French Alps, the hospital in Lausanne said staff trained there is helping him recover there.

“A large part of the team that cares for Michael now was trained by our specialists. We are following his treatment and are still a point of contact and entirely at his disposal,” a spokesperson for the Lausanne Hospital told the website.

As many as 15 people are caring for Schumacher, who is said to have amassed hundreds of millions of dollars during his lengthy and prosperous F1 career.

In a statement while Schumacher was returned home, his family wrote: “Considering the severe injuries he suffered, progress has been made in the past weeks and months. There is still, however, a long and difficult road ahead.”

“It should not be assumed that massive changes in his health status were the reasons for the move,” it added.

Schumacher spent nearly six months in a coma after his accident.

And reports have indicated Schumacher’s son, Mick, wants to follow in his father’s footsteps.

According to News.com.au, Mick wants to become a F1 world champion, and he’s well on his way after finishing in second place in the KF-Junior category at Essay, France a few days ago.

He spoke with the website, saying “Of course I am proud of such an important result. But it is also clear that it is my goal to be world champion. This is only the beginning of my career.”
