Tropical Storm Karl became the third storm system in the Atlantic Monday afternoon, forming in the Caribbean Sea and looking to target Mexico and Central America.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Karl has maximum sustained winds of 40 MPH, is 270 miles off the east coast of Mexico, and is moving at a rate of 15 MPH to the west-northwest.

Mexico has issued a tropical storm warning for the east coast of the Yucatan peninsula from Chetumal to Cabo Catoche. Belize has issued a tropical storm watch for its northern coast, from Belize City to the Belize-Mexico border.

A warning indicates that 39 to 73 MPH winds are expected within 36 hours, and a watch indicates the same conditions are expected within 48 hours. However, with the newly formed Karl, tropical storm conditions are expected within 24 hours for both Mexico and Belize.
