The “Material Girl” clothes line started by Madonna has caught the ire of another fashion company, who filed a lawsuit against the singer.

“Material Girl”, which was the name of a hit song Madonna released in the 1980s, was started by the mega-star and her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes to cater to juniors. The first batch of clothing from the company was made publicly available on Aug. 3 at Macy’s in New York.

However, clothing maker LA Triumph filed suit because they said they have been using the “Material Girl” trademark since 1997, reports People magazine on Friday.

“Our client and its predecessor have been continually selling similar clothes in similar retail outlets at similar price points under their “Material Girl” brand since at least 1997 and Madonna and her newfound company do not have the right to trade in the same space under this brand,” an unnamed lawyer for the clothing company told People magazine.

{etRelate 41036, 40318} The company wants Madonna to stop using the name and give them all profits from clothing sales under the “Material Girl” name.

Madonna has yet to make a public statement about the lawsuit.
