Brave law enforcement officers truly deserve our respect. They put their lives on the line each day to keep us, our families, and our communities safe. “To protect and to serve,” is a dangerous job that most people would run away from.

So, it’s important for us to thank our men in blue for their service and the sacrifices they have made.

There are numerous ways to show your appreciation to law enforcement officers. One example came from a little boy named Levi of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

In late October 2018, while dining out with his family, Levi ran into a sheriff deputy in uniform and decided to do something to brighten up his day.

Levi approached Deputy James Dawson from East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Department to thank him for his service.

The boy presented Deputy Dawson with a card that read “Thank you for your service,” along with delicious chocolate-covered pretzels.

Levi told Deputy Dawson he would like to join law enforcement himself when he grows up.

Then, both the boy and the sheriff deputy grinned from ear to ear as they posed for a photo.

Deputy Dawson shared the uplifting encounter on East Baton Rouge Sheriffs Office Facebook page, writing, “What a wonderful feeling it was for this man to show his appreciation for all LEO’S. MADE evening the best.”

The post has racked up some 107 reactions and caught the attention of Deputy Dawson’s daughter, Heather McInnis.

“That’s my daddy!!!!! I am so proud to see that kids as young as Levi see and appreciate all that our LEOs do for this community!!!!! #prouddaughterrighthere!!!!!” McInnis wrote.

Other social media users who knew Deputy Dawson chimed in to comment.

“James Dawson is a wonderful man and great example of goodness!” one enthused.

Another remarked, “Awesome. He does love his job, his family and children.”

Way to go, Levi! You’re so young, yet you know the need to be thankful for what our courageous men in blue do to maintain public safety.

No words can truly express how grateful we are for our police officers’ service but a simple card or handshake would mean the world to many of them. Hopefully, this story will inspire others to thank our law enforcement officers through acts of kindness!
